| Reasons . . . |
Casa Camplese is a family page where all members of the Camplese family, near and far, and all their friends are always welcome. Come in. Pull up a (figurative)chair. This is where you can sit around the kitchen table to swap stories, memories, recipes, and news of the family around the world. We're hoping that while you're here, you'll have an opportunity to learn something about the family Camplese--where we come from, where we are and what we're doing now. If you are comfortable enough, maybe you'll bring us up to date on what you're doing now and what the rest of your family is doing. We really want to know if your sister-in-law's oldest daughter finally got married, and is it really true that Bruno's wife named their oldest kid Zappa? And what do you hear from the family in the Old Country? And, say, Carmella, do you have the recipe for baccalla that your mom used to make? This is our place. You might not be sitting around Tony's kitchen table eating homemade ravioli, but, if you kick off your shoes and try hard enough, you might just be able to smell the sauce.

o A little background on the family name and the part of Italy that we come from. o A little history on the families in the US, and Italy, if they join us. This section will grow as we hear from you. o News, plans for the 1999 family reunion in Pennsylvania. o Pictures from our family albums. o Recipes and memories of good times and family traditions. o Some Italian genealogy pointers and links for those who want to look into their family background and a source of information for others related to us who may be researching the surname. o You name it--this page is open to your suggestions. What it becomes depends largely on the feedback we receive. | What We Hope to Feature . . .

| Some Background . . . |
Camplese is an Italian toponymic surname, that is, one that derives from a location. It means a resident of Campli, a town in the Teramo province in the Abruzzi region of Italy. In fact, residents of Campli today refer to themselves as "camplese". At some point, this was adopted as a surname by former residents of the town, or descendants of residents of the town. It is not inconceivable that all modern-day Camplese family members may descend from a common ancestor who adopted the name of his village as a surname. If you want to explore this ancient town with a curiously modern pastime, continue on to the next section.
